MODERATED DISCUSSIONS

The M/s Gathering
is different

The discussions are not a free for all. We use stacking, meaning individuals who want to speak raise their hand and are called on in order. We also limit the time each person can speak at 3 minutes at a time. This ensures that one or two individuals cannot hijack the discussion. Each room has a volunteer who serves as a discussion monitor, keeping track of the stacking and the time. The discussion leader begins each discussion and continues to interact through all the questions and comments.

Read on for a list of our discussion topics this year!

Beyond the Red Ribbon – Daddy Rod

HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infections continue to impact many communities in our country, including the Leather Community. But what conversations are we having among ourselves to prevent its spread among our Brothers and Sisters? How do we stay safe as we negotiate our Kink Play? How do we do this in establishing our different relationships? How does stigma and ignorance keep us from talking about reducing risk in our everyday lives? “Beyond the Red Ribbon” is a facilitated discussion that will provide a forum for the community to explore and address the issues raised above.

Spirituality in M/s: Dynamics that Connect with Something Bigger – Blind Dancer

This discussion will allow us to explore how spirituality can affect our dynamics. Areas of focus can include challenges of bringing spirituality into alignment between master and slave; how the M/s dynamic can deepen a spiritual path; dynamics involving worship; and using M/s to help accept and draw out inner divinity. The facilitator comes from a pagan background, but diverse spirituality is welcome and will be given space.

Yoga Pants & Hockey Dad: Real Life M/s – Master Penguin & slave ginna

We all have the fantasy picture of what the perfect Power Exchange relationship looks like, with all the leather and chains. But when real life comes calling, the “real” dynamic tends to look a lot different. We discuss ways to ensure that your dynamics can still be fulfilling when wearing yoga pants instead of skimpy leather outfits. What about other everyday challenges like bills, jobs, teenagers, illness gets in the way of your relationship and connection.. With real life responsibilities like taking kids to scouts or band practice, how can the hockey dad and yoga pants mom make time to feed the dynamic that we envisioned in the beginning?

M/s Solo – Jo Ann Wadsworth

What do you do when you are navigating M/s Solo?

In this session, we will be talking about the challenges we face when practicing Mastery/slavery without a partner. How do you keep motivated? How do you keep growing? Have you had someone say you are not really a Master or slave without a partner? How did you handle it?

Everyone is welcome, partnered or not.

Learn some of the things you should be asking, both of yourself and of any potential new partner.

The Unvarnished Truth of M/s – Lord Brick & slave lara

M/s as We Know It: Dream Bigger – Lady Catherine & Jack

Let’s have a provocative dialogue about M/s communities, groups, organizations, and individual contributions and participation. We will discuss what does and does not in social groups and events (this is not about blame but examination). Let’s explore what isn’t readily available currently which we would like to enjoy in our communities. Then let’s turn it around and have a look at how we show up. Do we choose to contribute or not? How might we participate in and with these social constructs? We will examine how the flow of each may impact our relationship(s), create happiness, support our choices, open the doors to alignment, or distance us from feeling we are a part of the whole. Let’s dig deep, see what we unearth, and dream big about what we can create when we get brave.

Seeds, Chisels & Blunt Instruments: Training vs. Development – House Amor

Musician, instrument, canvas, painter, captain, crew, sculptor, sensei, devotee, acolyte, gardener, et al. represent just a few of the colorful (and tamer) metaphors used when we discuss how we come together in authority-based dynamics. One dichotomy that has evolved in M/s circles over the years is the concept of training vs. development. In this class we’ll look at the fundamental differences in these two approaches and why so many passionately align with one or the other. What are the strengths and weaknesses of each? How can a shift between them transform your relationship? Are they mutually exclusive or can they coexist within a dynamic? Join us for a deep dive at the juncture of M/s philosophy and practice. Learn which is right for you, and how the fluency model, “seed casting”, and more can support authority differential relationships.

Service is for Anyone – Trouvere & Chanteause

What are some types of service that one can do? How does service differ for a Master and a slave? Do Masters serve? (Hint: See the course title) If so, what is the difference? We have opinions, but mostly we have questions to help you examine your opinion.

The Joy of Being Me – Daddy Rod

This workshop was inspired by a question Emilious Terr posed to me for a presentation to MAsT Hampton Roads: “What is the presentation that I have never given before?” So many times I have been asked to present about myself, and it has always been through the lens of struggle. No one has ever asked me about the joys of being me. Nor had I offered it… until that session. “The Joy of Being Me” is a celebration of who I am as a Black, Gay/Queer, Kinky, HIV-positive individual. It is also an invitation for participants to also look at these aspects of their own identities and speak to the things they celebrate about being who they are and embracing this aspect of their lives.

OY! MY BACK! Aging in the Realm of M/s & BDSM – Sir Nikolas

Many of the Masters, slaves submissives, Doms etc., that crowded the dungeons and leather events of the 80s and 90s (including Myself) are coming to an age where swinging a flogger or single tail may not be as easy as it used to be; perhaps O/our endurance has changed, the ability to kneel and formally present without needing help to rise among other issues of the aging process that may impede our ability to perform as W/we did in O/our younger days.

W/we will discuss prevention of dungeon play mishaps, creating new accommodations for an enjoyable and safe dynamic, handling urgent medical situations, designating a medical power of attorney, and discussing other difficult topics that affect us as W/we age and transition to another realm.

Please join Me for an opportunity to discuss these topics (and others) in a safe and non-judgmental space. Let us share some experiences or ideas ideas for O/ur ability to continue enjoying O/our love of this dynamic as W/we age gracefully and powerfully.

Consent is not a Big Deal…The hell it’s Not!!! – Master Lola Smiles

Being in a Power Exchange or M/s dynamic does not supersede someone’s right of consent. The ability & right to consent remains in full effect despite the dynamic you enter. Regardless of the crazy things we may do together in a dynamic, at the end of the day we are all humans whose voices matter, whose feelings matter, whose needs matter. All of the tasks, play, exchanges, and interactions we engage in require trust, communication, care, compassion, and knowledge from ALL parties.
